Community Beyond and Social Justice Advocates

Social Justice Advocates of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster promotes justice, equity and compassion in human relations and respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

Our activities focus primarily on our local community, where we can have the most impact, but we also lend our voices to state, national and world causes that reflect our principles. New members are welcome and new ideas are encouraged.

Our group plans social justice activities and organizes events, but the energy and participation of all UUCL members are the driving forces of our community presence. Focus areas include:

  • Poverty—Providing financial support and personal caring.
  • Environment—Promoting awareness and stewardship.
  • Racial Justice—Increasing understanding and supporting minority communities.
  • Peacemaking—Calling for an end to unjust wars and social policies born of hatred and ignorance.

Get Involved!

Social Justice Advocates offers many ways for UUCL members and friends to demonstrate their commitment to a just society. For example, we have recently supported peace marches in Washington, D.C., and downtown Lancaster; provided overnight shelter for the homeless; served meals to the poor at Crispus Attucks Community Center; hosted screenings of important documentary films; supported letter writing and petition campaigns; and raised money for a wide range of non-profit organizations that provide essential services.

Look for upcoming volunteer and advocacy opportunities in the monthly Windows newsletter, the weekly All-Church Email, the Sunday order of service, and at the Social Justice Table during Coffee Hour.

Social Justice Advocates meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in Room 201. Feel free to attend whenever you are able. Your input is always welcome.
